Philip understands that when two people are sitting across from each other in a dispute, neither is thinking clearly - because when people feel threatened, the rational brain shuts down. Getting to a real resolution means creating a state of genuine safety first. That is what trauma-informed mediation means. And it is why agreements reached in Philip's sessions tend to last.
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process in which both parties agree to work with a trained, neutral mediator. The mediator does not take sides and does not make decisions. Their job is to create a safe space for honest conversation, help both sides genuinely understand each other, and guide the process toward an agreement both can accept.
It is faster and less expensive than litigation. It is private. And because the agreement comes from both parties rather than being imposed by a judge, it is much more likely to last.
